The crown jewels of archipelago food tourism

Parainen & Kemiönsaari

The summer archipelago invites you on a food adventure. Traditional fish dishes, smoked fish and herring still hold sway, but there are also top restaurants combining new flavours, innovative and tasty summer casseroles to accompany traditional fish soup, and great places to experience exceptional food quality and provenance.

Welcome to join us on a taste trip to the archipelago of Pargas and Kemiönsaari!

RESPECTING TRADITIONS

The most authentic fish soup in the archipelago can be found on the island of Aspöön, served in the old boathouse. You should be there at lunchtime, but luckily the shop also sells smoked fish if you've run out of the delicious soup.

IN SEARCH OF EXPERIENCES

Set up a summer fish table in the corner of the boathouse and enjoy the beautiful wooden surfaces and the play of lights and shadows as the waves glide by.

On the island of Högsåra, stop by the terrace of Rumpan Bar for refreshments and the almost Mediterranean atmosphere of the boathouse.

VIA TRADE TO THE EXCURSION

Summer delicacies also find their way to the plate through the wide selection of shops in the archipelago. In addition to fresh fish, it's also worth asking for local organic lamb and visiting small farm shops to do some shopping.

Nagu Distillery and Heisala Craft may also end up on your shopping list.

THE NEW ERA OF THE CLOSED ISLAND

Örö has been on the rise for several years now, but the island's diversity and offerings, which change every year, are worth more than one visit. The bistro menu, served in the oldest building on the island, is approachable and the burgers and fish & chips are enjoyed from afar.

If you're looking for something a little fancier, head for the island's main restaurant. Restaurant 12" serves one of the most delicious buffet lunches on the archipelago, as well as an a la carte menu in the evenings, with dishes designed in collaboration with local producers.

GARDEN DREAMS

Farmor's Cafe in Högsåra is one of the summer pilgrimage destinations and during the busy season the whole restaurant's courtyard is full of guests enjoying the summer. However, new innovations and a garden pizza menu ensure that things run smoothly and there are hardly any traffic jams.

However, you should allow enough time to make sure that dessert cakes are included in the experience.

ATELIER SAMI TALLBERG

Söderlångvik restaurant got a new lease of life this spring when Sami Tallberg revamped the menu, kitchen and restaurant space. The food alone is worth a trip from afar, but it's also worth taking the time to explore the manor itself - especially the changing exhibitions.

THE ARISTOCRACY OF ARTISAN PRODUCTS

The archipelago is home to several artisan food world championship medallists. The delicious rose drink 'Rosensaft' from Kullas Gård in Kemiönsaari and the beetroot, carrot and apple marmalade from Vikbo Torp in Nauvoo are gems you won't find anywhere else.

SMALL IS BEAUTIFUL

Källarvinden Cafe is probably one of the most least known rrestaurant, but perhaps that's a good thing. The tiny restaurant doesn't seat many tables, but once you've been here, you'll probably come back every summer - and you'll know to book early.

A small, idyllic cellar cellar, reminiscent of a slightly raised garden shed, a few tables and a wine cellar that is up to the standard of a top restaurant are guaranteed to capture your heart. Not to mention the delightful owners, who take care of every little detail.

ARCHIPELAGO VILLAGE IDYLLS

The Rosala-Hiittinen island harbour is a versatile place to visit, where you can find delicious fish soup from the Viking Centre, delightful little restaurants and local artisan products for souvenirs.

Rousal Brygger's Californian atmosphere with its sandy beaches will entice you to enjoy a six-beer tasting menu and a full list of smokers.

Backom Cafe in Hiittinen village is a meeting place for the whole village at lunchtime. The food is honest and sincere without gimmicks and the hostess Monica is a captivating personality.

At Holmström Lanthandel you can get all the great vegetables from Kemiön Island producers.

CHANGING CHEFS

A special feature of Hotel Hyppeis is a weekly changing menu during the summer - and changing chefs. The experience is new every time and the enchanting beauty of the gardens takes you away. It's worth coming here for a few days and then continuing along the Archipelago Ring Road after the heart rate has dropped.

A MICHELIN-LEVEL EXPERIENCE

If love of food can be felt in the flavours, colours and beauty of the dishes, then here it can be. Hotel Nestor & Restaurant Back Pocket in the middle of Korppo Island is the brainchild of chef William Hellgren and the passion and respect for food is evident and palatable.

A traditional farmhouse in the middle of the fields may not yet evoke great emotions, but when the dishes arrive to be tasted, you know you've entered culinary heaven.

If you can only go to one island in the summer, head to Korpponen. That's all you need.
