For more than 60 years and three generations, the Ahlström family built three significant residential buildings in the area, such as the Isotalo, Havulinna and Villa Mairea, as well as many other notable buildings, such as the Headquarters, the Club, the workers' apartments and the official villas.
Together, these buildings collectively form a spectacular and interesting whole. To this day, Noormarkun Ruukki is still owned by the Ahlström family.

The most famous building of the lot is undoubtedly the Villa Mairea, which was completed in the autumn of 1939, shortly before the start of the Winter War. It served as the home of Representatives Maire and Harry Gullichsen. The progressive and open-minded couple was interested in the pure expression of modernism. The building was designed by Maire and Harry's friends, Alvar and Aino Aalto, who had the opportunity to experiment design freely.
Villa Mairea has held many roles from the start: it was the home of the Representative and their children, the home of Maire’s art collection, and the home where Maire and Harry Gullichsen’s friends enjoyed the hospitality of the host couple. Over the years, the house has hosted many celebrations and events, and there have been plenty of top professionals in various fields, from musicians to visual artists from all around the world.
